The carousel is the most photographed ride in almost every park we supply, and the easiest one to get wrong on size. Order too small and you cannot fill the queues on a weekend; order too large and you spend money on capacity your footfall cannot support.
The size ladder
| Model type | Seats | Where it works | Space planning note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12-Seat Ocean Carousel | 12 | Mall, restaurant, small indoor play area | Fits indoors with a modest ceiling |
| 16-Seat themed carousel (pony, peach canopy, etc.) | 16 | FEC, kiddie zone | Most popular entry size for FECs |
| 10 m 44-Seat Carousel | 44 | Family park, city park | Outdoor anchor ride |
| 11.5 m 48-Seat Carousel | 48 | Family park, resort | Slightly larger diameter, better throughput |
| 10 m double-deck (50 / 52 seats) | 50–52 | Park with height allowance | Double deck needs structure and ceiling planning |
| 11.5 m 78-Seat Double-Deck Carousel | 78 | Theme park flagship | Landmark ride, engineered foundation |
We produce 40 carousel models in total, from 12-seat kiddie units to the 11.5 m double-deck flagship. Between the standard sizes, seating can often be adjusted — tell us the target capacity and we will confirm what is possible for your model.
Floor space, ceiling and power
- Floor space: a carousel needs its platform diameter plus a safety envelope. For an outdoor installation plan for a decorative fence and queue area, not just the machine.
- Ceiling: single-deck rides are far easier indoors; a double-deck unit needs real headroom plus structure for the upper deck and its lighting.
- Power: the ride motor is modest, but lighting and music are what you notice at night — plan the supply for the lighting package you actually want.
- Foundation: outdoor carousels sit on a level concrete base built from our drawing.
Single or double deck?
A double-deck carousel is a landmark: it changes the skyline of a park and photographs beautifully from a distance. It also costs more, needs more height and takes longer to install. Many successful parks start with a 10 m or 11.5 m single-deck carousel and upgrade later — the single-deck ride pays for itself first and tells you how much capacity your market really supports.
Theming and finish
This is where a carousel becomes your carousel:
- FRP animal figures — choose from stock designs or custom sculpts
- Canopy artwork and colour scheme matched to your park brand or to a licensed theme you hold
- LED lighting programs and background music system
- Optional scenery, mirrors and gold-leaf style detailing on the centre column
Send reference photos or a colour chart and our design team will return a render before production.
Capacity maths that operators actually use
A carousel cycle is typically around 3 minutes including loading and unloading. That gives roughly 20 cycles per hour, so seats × 20 is your hourly capacity at full load: a 44-seat carousel can theoretically serve about 880 rides per hour, a 16-seat kiddie carousel about 320. In practice, plan on 50–70% of that with realistic guest flow.
Ordering checklist
- Site drawing with available diameter, headroom and power supply
- Target capacity per hour and expected peak footfall
- Theme direction (stock design or custom) and lighting package
- Whether installation is supervised by our engineers or your local team
- Spare parts and warranty terms in writing
